 End Of An Era
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:18 AM
Category: General

Hello everybody in the Raven community! It has come to pass that my good friend Phoebus has decided to move on and the server and domains will be shutting down by June 1st, unless somebody comes along and makes a reasonable offer and takes over. This effects Mindless Games, Raven-Games and Newdoom and the two forums. You can read the official announcement on the forum and if you have anything to say you can use this thread.
It all started with Crazed & Quakin', a fun little experiment I started out of my love for games. Then Cult of Phoebus, which was right up there with Blue's News in the burgeoning online FPS community. Next came a huge step, with HexenWorld, in collaboration with PlanetQuake. I next launched HereticII.com while still at Activision. Raven hired me away from Activision, but they weren't really free to support the community. I left Raven, but held onto the sites out of a sense of pride and loyalty to the community. Next came Soldier-of-Fortune.com and VoyagerEliteForce.com. HereticII.com became Raven-Games.com and I bought my own server to host all the sites, as well as MindlessGames.com. Then came NewDoom.com!
So yeah, it IS an end of an Era and what happens by the time June rolls around remains to be seen. Whatever may be, the fact remains that I personally have gained much from being a part of this site and the Raven site as well... gained knowledge and have had many many good times, but most important, have gained a number of very good friends all thanks to Phoebus! So whatever he does next, I certainly wish him well. It's been a fun ride and tomorrow will be a good day no matter what. Life is full surprises and let us see where the road takes us.

 Imperial Assassin v2
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:24 AM
Category: Jedi Knight

Over on Jedi Knight Files GoodJawa released version 2 of his Imperial Assassin skin for Jedi Academy.
The main changes for this version are that the red markings on the skin now glow, which looks really great! The glowiness definitely adds a great deal to the look of the skin. Though the markings on the boots don’t glow, so that needs to be fixed, but apart from that, this guy is now nice and glowy!
Hit Jedi Knight Files for that skin! Have a good day people!

 He Isn't Deadpool Yet
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:10 AM
Category: X-Men

From what I read on Splash Page Ryan Reynolds says that he is playing Wade Wilson before he becomes Deadpool.
“Fox may differ from me, but I personally don’t consider him as Deadpool,” Reynolds told Latino Review of his character. “I’m the thing that will eventually become Deadpool.”

ST: New Hope - Station Archer
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:41 AM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

Over on Elite Force Files you can grab version 1.1 of a map that is called ST: New Hope - Station Archer that fred300 released for Elite Force and this one is a RPG level.
Station Archer is a High-Tech Station of the Sol-System. It is a new design of Starbases from the new-founded Terran Empire! The plans for this Starbase were stolen from the Starfleet of the UFP in the Mirror-Universe. We have reconstructed it, but we must improvise with the technology of our old ships, because we are not have all the resources and technologies as the UFP.
That map is available over on Elite Force Files!

 Shadow Moses Island
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:33 AM
Category: Jedi Knight

The file of the week over on Jedi Knight Files is Shadow Moses Island which is a free for all map desingned for Jedi Academy by BormKloon.
This map is based off a map from Metal Gear Solid, and even though I don't know the original map it's still easy to enjoy this one. It's a sort of pseudo-military industrial complex with boxes scattered everywhere in a snowy mountain island. There are a few flaws but overall it's a really solid map, and I'm really impressed since it's only the author's second map.
That map is over on Jedi Knight Files.

That's all for now, have a good day.

A Map That Is Called SMTB
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:32 AM
Category: Soldier of Fortune

joffka released a multiplayer map for Soldier of Fortune 2 that goes by the name smtb.
I've started with this map in 2004. In fact of many limitations from the engine i had to rebuild this map many many times. But now after sleeping 3 years on my harddrive it's done. So you can visit a typical village in northern germany ...
The map requires the gold patch to play. That is really all I know. Take er cool and have a snazzy day.

 Hugh Jackman's Claws
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 4:49 AM
Category: X-Men

Over on the Courier Post Online they put up an article called Hugh Jackman digs his claws into 'Wolverine' and here is a snip:
Jackman has been ratcheting up the tension lately. After his first stint as Oscar host, he turns his attention to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which opens May 1. The fourth installment of the comic-book adaptation finds Jackman wearing not just the steel claws of the title character, but also the producer's hat.
That is all on the Courier Post Online. Cya later... have a good day.

 Have Some Quadrion
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:40 PM
Category: Jedi Knight

KungFuPanda released a multiplayer map for Jedi Outcast that's called Quadrion.
Y’know, I’m sure I’ve heard the word ‘Quadrion’ before, but I cannot for the life of me remember where… a quick Google search didn’t bring up anything which would shed some light on what the word means, but oh well. It sounds cool regardless, and that’s the important thing, isn’t it?
Check out some Quadrion over on Jedi Knight Files. Have a nice day!

 Star Trek: Vanguard - Displaced
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 4:05 AM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

Now for something different! Over on Elite Force Files you can download Star Trek: Vanguard - Displaced... which sounds like a map or something but is actually some Star Trek fan fiction.
This story was begun by me back in 2007 and as you will probably notice my writing improves as the story progresses ( i had to edit the first part because i was so ashamed =P ) This was of course before i got involved in RPG-X, throughout the story you will probably see quite a few elements of various roleplays I've taken part of, mainly the main character ( Robertson... Me =P ) and the Starship Vanguard ( Some of the old F-RP members may remember the failed attempts at creating a Star Trek: Vanguard text based serial roleplay.
That is all on Elite Force Files so go check it out.

 Singularity Is Lost
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:28 PM
Category: Singularity

According to USA Today Raven Software's 'Singularity' aims squarely at fans of TV's popular 'Lost' .... oooh.
The comparisons are not lost on Raven Software studio head Brian Raffel. He intends to lure fans of Lost with the upcoming "thinking man's" first-person shooting game, Singularity, due this year from the Middleton, Wis.-based developer for PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PCs.
So there you go and I'm off!

 Jhey's Complex
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:12 AM
Category: Jedi Knight

According to Jedi Knight Files here is the final version of Jhey's Complex which is a free for all map made for Jedi Academy.
This map features two levels, with a large stairway in the center. The lower level features a few boutiques, a ground-level vista, bar (What map DOESN'T have one?), and a small lounge. The upper level features an entry way, a food-court-that's-not-really-a-food-court, a loungish area that's smaller than the lounge on the ground level, and a high-vaulted ceiling.
Have a look at Jhey's Complex. Cya guys later! Have a good one.

 Singularity Impressions
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:58 AM
Category: General

If you put a hit on IGN you can check out the Singularity Impressions they put together and here is a snip:
When your plane nears the island, it begins to go haywire and you wind up crash-landing on the island. When you take over, your main objective is to simply find your copilot. Obviously, that task doesn't simply turn out to be a game of Marco Polo.
Check that out over on IGN. I'm off... have a great day people.

Capture Some Flag On Subway Station 5
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:23 AM
Category: Voyager: Elite Force

Here is an CTF map for Elite Force that is called Subway Station 5 that sorbet released.
This is not a bad map at all, surprisingly its really good. This features your run of the mill red base vs blue base though in a subway station. The sheer strength of the colour in each station is distracting making combat difficult but is not so bad when a target comes into your line of site as they will stand out against the mono-coloured map. Down in the station there is very little lighting making it hard to spot things from time to time.
That map can be grabbed off of Elite Force Files.

 Bara Tzu
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:30 PM
Category: Jedi Knight

The author is Xhuzan_Tzu and the skin pack is Bara Tzu and is made for Jedi Academy.
Anyway, here we have a new skin pack by Xhuzan_Tzu, the featured character of which is called Bara Tzu and is the authors own personal Star Wars character. There are three skins included in this pack, each with a separate purpose behind them. So lets have a look at the first one; the Training Robes skin to begin with.
That file is available over on Jedi Knight Files. Take er cool my friends.
